A Life Well Lived: Lola Parkinstok
Born
on the west coast of Scotland in 1959, Lola Rose Parkinstok was an
unmistakeable author. Her famous writing is known throughout the world. She is
regarded by many to be the greatest author ever. When she died the world was mourning;
her life inspired a new generation of writers and story-tellers. Even today she
is remembered by many people.
She
grew up in the small village of Bute, on the west coast of Scotland. Her father
(Guy Parkinstok) was a local shop keeper in her village. He became extremely
ill and died when Lola was only six years old. Her mother was a teacher at the
local school. Ever since she was able to write, the gifted, ambitious author
was always up in her room writing amazing stories that she sold to the locals.
Later
in life, Lola started to write a group of books called The Adventures of Crystal Bay. It
was about a group of friends who explore the hidden Crystal Bay. By the time
she was twenty-eight her first book had been published and had sold over three
million copies. After publishing her second book she became famous world-wide.
After
this great success Lola continued to write more of the popular series. When she
turned thirty-nine, the first book was adapted into a major film. She travelled
the world – doing lectures, meeting fans and signing books. The unique author
won the Whitelist Book Award four times during her life. On her way back to the
UK (from a conference in Germany) the plane had an emergency crash and she was
rushed into hospital. Tragically, thirteen people, including her closest friend,
Jean Watson, died.
When
she was fifty-seven, Lola was rushed in to hospital with cancer. She suffered
two and a half years of agony until she sadly passed away, alone.
Unfortunately, she was half way through writing the last book of the series. The
book sold at an auction for over twenty thousand pounds. All of the money went
towards new medicine for the NHS. Some believe that she was the most influential
author ever. As Lola said:” Throughout life we learn and experience lots of
different things, some amazing, some depressing, but even if the journey’s
tough, it will be worth it in the end.”

Fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a clever piece of writing as it is so believable. It sounds as if it is true. Maybe I would have liked to have known how Lola felt after any of the significant events. I'm sure the biographer could have found that out by interviewing any of Lola's close friends or relatives. Well done, Josie.
ReplyDeleteI wish lola was real so I could meet her :(
ReplyDeleteWhy did she have to die, she sounded so nice
