106 Words - The Box

Rue lived in the attic of her grandparent’s huge house. It was cold, damp and frightening in her attic because hidden under Rue’s bed was a box. It wasn’t any old box, no; it was as black as the night, covered in peculiar, red markings. Rue found it under one of the floorboards while she was searching for her phone. She never told anyone about it, in case they made fun of her or tried to take it away. On a dark, stormy night, Rue slid the box out from under her bed. Hands shaking, Rue opened it, but when she lifted the lid…

Darkness. Alone.
