Clark Dickinson: The life of a soldier

Clark Dickinson was born in 1973, in Manchester. At the age of 4 his parents died in a car and he was forced to go and stay with his uncle. He lived with his uncle until he was 16 and then joined the army; he was a very successful soldier. After he was in the army for 12 years he became a sergeant. In 2012 Clark was recruited for the team that killed Osama Bin Laden. Once he was knighted by the Queen, Clark retired from the army and went on holiday to Spain, but tragically died in a plane hijack at the age of 40. Clark was known as a hero not just for killing Bin Laden but for giving up his life and saving thousands.

When Clark was born he didn’t see his father until the age of three (his father was fighting for the British Army abroad), but when his parents were on their way to pick him up from his first day at school, his father lost control of the car and crashed. When he was told that he had to go and live with his uncle, Clark didn’t want to go but in the end he went. As he got older Clark wanted to know about his parents: when his uncle told him that his father was a soldier, Clark was inspired and wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. When his sixteenth birthday came he didn’t celebrate. He was focused on becoming a soldier.

Later in life, Clark was promoted to a sergeant after battling in many wars and managing to win, but it wasn’t all victory. Clark watched his friends get killed and he was lucky to come out alive. When Clark had finished on the front lines and commanding a group of soldiers, he was recruited for the elite team that killed the infamous Osama Bin Laden. After killing Bin Laden, Clark realized that there was not much more for him in the army, so he retired from the battlefield and carried on his life lecturing around the world.

After six months of not being at war, Clark received a letter from the Queen, saying that she was going to knight him. Venturing into Buckingham palace, Clark was amazed by what he saw. Once his knighthood was televised, Clark wanted to lay low, so he went on holiday to Spain. During the hijacking, the pilot was killed, but in this event Clark knocked out the hijacker and managed to land it. Unfortunately when Clark was fighting the hijacker, he was stabbed in the stomach and Clark died of blood loss on the way to hospital.

It is thanks to Clark that thousands of people are still alive. Clark had a great impact on the world as every year countries like Spain, America, England, France and Russia remember the day Clark Dickinson died and they respect him.

This is a quote from Stephen Walking, one of the passengers on the plane:

“Clark saved not just the people on the plane; he also saved many of the people that were on the streets of Spain and risked his life. He will be remembered.”
