The Workington Olympics

The cheerleaders

Doing Zumba!

On the 12th of June all of the Ashfield pupils attended the Workington Olympics at the Workington speedway tracks. As well as Ashfield Junior School – us – we were accompanied by 14 other schools; 15 including us attended the whole event. While down at the speedway grounds many selected Olympic sports were held, including: long jump, hurdles, sprint, sock throw, relay race and the obstacle course.

At the start of the event the cheerleaders made an amazing entrance. Joining with other school’s cheerleading teams they formed the Olympic flag – dressing in the colours of the rings.
Another thing that took place was Zumba and Boxercise, it was an amazing activity, and lots of fun too.

The Workington Olympics day was a very long day. But in our opinion, it wasn’t boring at all. We always had something to do or something to talk about! Many children met new friends over the different races, as they got to talk to them as they lined up for their turn. Everyone seemed confident and mixed well with the other schools.

Ashfield got several silver wins, several gold wins and a few bronze wins. A song by Michael Milner was especially written for the Workington Olympics, it was called ‘Give Your Best From The Start’. It was greatly written and all the schools joined in to sing and dance. Before that, all the schools were announced by CFM’s Robbie Dee, and one by one each school walked down on to the grass to put on the finale, in front of the parents and guardians. Everyone pulled off a very good performance of the songs we sang (We are the champions, Reach for the stars, Jump for joy and Give your best from the start!) and the races we took part in.

Although not everyone got to take part in a race, we all had a fantastic day and it all went very well for the organisers. Also, we’d like to say thank you to Miss Bone who entered us into the Workington Olympics. Overall, it was a very great day!
