When I Leave AJS

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
The waves and goodbyes are getting near
We’re ready to move onto secondary school
Leaving AJS is almost here

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
Leaving this school is like moving away
But we’re ready to go from oldest to youngest
It’s getting closer, our last day

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
Meeting new friends and keeping old close are our two aims
It’s time to finish off and leave
And pack up all the fun and games

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
Thanking all the teachers
Remembering the great lessons
Loving all their features

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
All the memories are so great
Trips, shows, playtimes, teachers and friends
Time to start a new slate

It’s nearly time to leave AJS
The last few hours burning down
If there was school royalty
AJS would definitely win the crown.

Cargo Transporter

In the morning all of the class got to choose what they wanted to do from a list.  I chose to try and make something that would carry pens and pencils from one side of the class room to the other using KNEX. I thought  it was quite easy to make. It was fun!

When I leave AJS

When I leave Ashfield I am going to miss some of my friends and teachers. I don’t want to leave Miss Yoxall because when I was upset she looked after me. I am going to miss Ellie because she is going to Stainburn and I am going to Guildford to see my mum and my family with all of my cousins. I am going to miss Mrs Tooley because she always helps me and I am happy with my SATs because I got a Level 4 in my reading.  We are having a leaving disco on Wednesday, then we are having a leavers assembly on Thursday. I am going to miss Jordan because he is going to Stainburn. Lauren is going to miss me but she will still have Ellie as a friend and Amy as well, and Heidi, Kate and Jack. But she won’t have me to boss around, that is good. I will have my mum to look after me and all my cousins and my auntie and uncle. It is hotter in the south but it is cold here.

I will miss Ashfield Junior School.

When I Leave AJS

When I leave Ashfield I am going to miss Mr Bishop because he hates pink, Mrs Tooley because I was her best buddy, Miss Bryant because she was my friend, Mr Ditchburn because he is very kind, Miss Yoxall because she is the best teacher in year 5, Mr Kyle because he is the funniest teacher in year 3 and Miss Bone because she has been very kind to me all the time. I am going to be sad when I leave because I am going to leave some of my friends behind, but I will still visit Ashfield because I am going to Stainburn Science College.

We are having a leavers disco on Wednesday. Then we are having an leavers assembly on Thursday morning. I am going to miss Louise because she is going to Christ College in Guildford. In Year 6 we have been doing painting, sculptures, drawing, hard work and working on the computers. We have been putting stuff on the blog like this one. My class is the coolest class in Year 6. Every time I am off Mr Ditchburn says this to Louise: What have you done to Jordan, Louise?

When I Leave AJS

When I leave Ashfield I will leave some of my friends like Rebecca W. There is an endless list of teachers that have helped me: Mr Bishop, Miss Bryant, Mrs Tooley and many more. On Wednesday we are having our leavers disco, we are having a bouncy castle and then on Thursday we are having our leavers' assembly. There are lots of good memories but my favourite is Edinburgh because we went to the zoo, the castle, Camera Obscura, Mary Kings Close, Dynamic Earth, the bus tour, Oliver in the Playhouse and lots more.

I will miss Ashfield Junior School.

As part of The Level Up Project, run by Theatre by the Lake, 35 of our Year Sixes attended a transition event yesterday.  All of the project’s transition events this year have stemmed from a performance of The Fire-Work Maker’s Daughter that we saw back in December.

Level-Up

On the 9th of July, 2012, Ashfield Junior School’s Year 6’s who were to be moved on to Stainburn by the end of Summer, visited their secondary school (Stainburn School and Science College) to carry on with The Level Up Project.
In the morning, we all met up at Stainburn at 9 o’clock – a bit later than usual, which means more of a lie in! We all gathered in the hall, having time to meet new friends and talk with the pupils we already new. After 5 to 10 minutes, someone from Theatre by the Lake introduced himself and told us what we were going to be doing… His name was Daniel. As well as this, he introduced all his friends and the helpers, two of them were called Jeff and Jen. Overall, through the day Daniel, Jeff and Jen were the main teachers, and helpers.

Anyway, after they had introduced themselves we played a game called ‘This is my space’. At one stage in the game we had to shake hands with everyone we passed, which was a challenge, since we didn’t know everyone.

After we played ‘This is my space’ we had a little break and got to go outside. Then, when we came back in, we played another game so we could mix around with pupils from different schools. First of all, we had to sort ourselves into hair colour, then eye colour, and last of all birthday months. While in out birthday groups, we had to talk and tell each other what date we were born so we could sort ourselves into order. Next, Daniel announced that we would be doing a firework dance. He put us into 3 groups:

Jeff: January, February, March and April.
Jen: May, June, July and August.
Daniel: September, October, November and December.

We all decided which group would have which name – Jeff’s being Storm Buster, Jen’s being Shooting Stars and Daniel’s being Glimmer.
We choose the way our firework rumbled and got ready to explode. And then, we got to add sounds and various other things. Then, we added our explosion and we were ready to show the other groups our dance.

Eventually, after watching all the groups, we had lunch and got to go outside again, meeting most of the Year 7s we would be working with in the afternoon.

During the afternoon, the Year 7s joined us and we all listened and spoke to them about the dos and don’ts of Stainburn School. This led on to  dressing up in colourful outfits together and walking around the school as a parade. We all looked bright and colourful with ribbons everywhere and facepaint too. It was very fun and altogether we went around 3 times! Some of us even got to use the mega phone! I think every pupil enjoyed the day and had tons of fun.

A 50 Word Story

One week ago David entered the Olympics, in the hurdles. He jumped a hurdle, but suddenly he tripped… in a blink of an eye he quickly scrambled back on to his feet and attempted another jump and achieved it. He came second! It was awesome that day! EPIC! Everyone cheered.

A 50 Word Story - Captain Price's Victory

BANG BANG! The bullets flew across the desert.
“Take cover,” hollered Captain Price.
“Too much fire,” yelled Gaz crouched behind the crumbling wall.
“Sgt. Griggs take cover,” shouted Soap.
 BANG BANG! Enemy RPG. BOOM!
Finally the enemy retreated and they headed back to base. Price and his troops triumphed again.

Chance To Shine, Show Time!

Rehearsals
On Monday the 2nd June, all of Ashfield Junior School’s year sixes decided to put on a fantastic and amazing show, called ‘Chance To Shine, Show Time!
We all chose what we wanted to produce on the day of the show and began to write lines, download songs, print lyrics, make up routines and many other things. During the rehearsals, we had lots of fun and built our confidence up with various activities and warm ups. We put lots of work into our dances, songs, entertainment and acts. After many drama games and practises, we were ready for dress rehearsals.

Dress Rehearsal
On Thursday morning, we all dressed up in bright and bold, or dark and dull, costumes, ready to have our first dress rehearsal. Everyone was so excited to see what the show would probably look like from audience point of view. We all sat down on the rows of chairs while our producers, Dec and Not-Ant, welcomed us to the show (dress rehearsal). In our opinion, we thought it went pretty well and after we’d finished the dress rehearsal we were very, very, very excited!

Show Time
After lunch, we all got re-dressed into our costumes and were ready to put on ‘Chance To Shine, Show Time!’ Everyone looked fabulous backstage and onstage! The audience looked like they really enjoyed it, because of the way they laughed, smiled and cheered. Many acts performed and all of them got big claps! Also, the audience really encouraged the people onstage by never booing or laughing, they always cheered!
At the end, we all joined in the finale by singing ‘Reach’ for the whole audience, some even joined in!

After Show
After the show, we were all quite tired and very proud. We had performed a fabulous show! All of the teachers were proud of us too and many children complimented us and enjoyed it. Also, we all got a nice, long playtime for a reward.

Thank you
We’d like to give a big thank you to:
                                         Mr Ditchburn
                                         Miss Bone
                                         Miss Wharton
                                         Miss Johnstone
                                         Mrs Heron
If they hadn’t been here to help us we wouldn’t have had this wonderful show… Thank you!

During transition week some of the Year 5 children made sculptures in the style of Alberto Giacometti.  Elias said he found it hard to write what he did as a set of instructions.

How to Make a Giacometti Sculpture

What you need: Tin foil,
                            Pipe cleaners
                            And paint

∙First make a loop in a pipe cleaner
∙Then put a pipe cleaner in front of the looped pipe cleaner
∙After that twirl the right end of the second pipe cleaner round the middle of
  the looped pipe cleaner
∙Last but not least wrap tinfoil round the legs arms body and head, then if you
want paint it a dark colour
∙Finally stick plastacine to the feet and then stick it on black card.

In the style of Giacometti...with a hint of Usain Bolt

A 50 Word Story

On a snowy Christmas eve a naughty boy rived open his neatly wrapped present and within it found a mysterious  cave with mystical dark green lights. But the cave started to grow. Minutes later he slowly entered the glowing unknown. He heard a roar!!!  His mother re-wrapped the present.

A 50 Word Story

The asteroid came powering towards Earth with a mighty speed, sending the stars and planets of the Solar System to other galaxies, as if it was controlling the things standing in its way, leaving sparks as it travelled as if to poison things that would try to trip it up.

A New 50 Word Story.........and it's a good one!

The lake shone brightly in the moonlight. Celia, daughter of the multi millionaire George Bucks, was on a dangerous mission. High above she clung to the edge of the cliff, her parachute had failed. One false move she’d be falling to her death. Laughing, Rezonov stamped on her fingers. “AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!”
